Nā ‘Ale O Mana‘olana
Sponsored by Mana‘olana Pink Paddlers
Waves of Hope (Nā ‘Ale O Mana‘olana) is a cancer treatment assistance program to help Maui County residents actively dealing with cancer. Scholarship maximum is $500, and payments are made directly to health providers.
We fund:
-
Alternative Cancer Treatments provided by licensed professionals, such as naturopathic medicine and herbal remedies to treat cancer, not often covered by health insurance
-
Complementary Care provided by licensed professionals, such as acupuncture and massage, to help you feel better
We do not fund such things as: medical co-payments, transportation costs, housing, cleaning, utility bills, or loans, nor are we able to fund medical marijuana.
Eligibility Criteria
In order to qualify for funding, you must be a permanent resident of Maui County, 18 years of age or older, and be diagnosed with cancer by a qualified medical doctor. You must be actively dealing with cancer and need financial assistance with your alternative treatments/complementary care. Applicants are initially eligible to receive one award; if, at least three months after the initial award, you are still under active cancer treatment and still need financial assistance, you may be considered for a second award, funds permitting.
Application Process & Submission
Applications must be filled out online. It includes information describing the treatments sought, length of treatment, and costs (including tax). We require information regarding your cancer treatment provider's licensure (Hawaii professional license number, which can be looked up at https://mypvl.dcca.hawaii.gov/public-license-search/) and complete mailing address. Funding approval will be made on an objective and nondiscriminatory basis by a committee of health and service professionals. The Committee will approve or decline the application, pay invoices directly to providers, and monitor the process to completion. Although we do not want anyone to be denied financial assistance, Mana’olana Pink Paddlers has limits on the number and amount of funding it can provide.
